About Mottram St Andrew Chapel

Mottram St Andrew Church

The present Methodist Chapel was built in 1894 and of course, celebrated its Centenary in 1994. It is the only place of Worship within the village boundary, though there is evidence of a thriving Methodist community prior to the present church being built. Further evidence of links with religious matters can be found in local names such as Priest Lane on which the present Chapel stands and the area close by called Kirkleyditch on older maps.

This continuity is maintained by the present congregation with a membership of around thirty. In recent years the building has been brought up to date with modern facilities and has recently been re-roofed and redecorated. As well as supporting the church in many ways, many members are also very active in the wider community of the village itself which has a thriving Primary School and recently rebuilt Village Hall.

Regular Sunday Services are at present held at 9.30am with occasional special services at 6.30pm. A ‘Little Fishes plus Dolphin Group’ for the younger people, is integrated into the first Sunday Service each month.

Visitors are always made very welcome at all our services and there is an opportunity for fellowship and a chat after the morning service when refreshments are served. The church is also a certified ‘Fair-trade’ church using Fair-traded goods wherever possible.
