In recent years the Alderley Edge and Knutsford Methodist Circuit took the initiative to launch 'The Welcome Centre' project for the purpose of serving the diverse needs of the Over Ward (Longridge) Estate on the fringe of Knutsford.

A shop and drop-in centre running under the auspices of The Welcome Charity has now been established, now managed by Marie Fox supported by a team of lay-volunteers. The Welcome Cafe provides a wide range of community development programmes, availability of practical and counselling support, fellowship, constant coffee and cakes.

On 1st September 2010, The Welcome Methodist Church was officially formed providing opportunities for worship and prayer. The Minister is chaplain to the Fire Station and has strong links with local schools and ecumenical partners. 

In September 2011, The Welcome was awarded one of the Prime Minister's Big Society awards, recognising the work done by the project and subsequent church and charity over the last 16 years.  On 5th December 2011, Mark, Marie and Ben were privileged to be invited to a reception at No 10 Downing Street to be congratulated by the Prime Minister himself!  (see photo in the gallery!)
