About Alderley Edge
Alderley Edge is a picturesque and busy village in North Cheshire, taking its name from the wooded sandstone escarpment which rises from the surrounding Cheshire plains. The Edge itself is a National Trust reserve and an historic site, being both the site of Roman (and possibly earlier) copper mines, and the mythical location of sleeping Arthurian knights. The south side slopes gently back to the plains, while the north ends abruptly in cliffs, giving panoramic views for many miles.
The village is situated along the busy A34, carrying traffic to and from Manchester, 20 miles to the north, and is a picturesque and historic place. Some of Cheshire's oldest buildings survive here, including Chorley Old Hall and nearby Nether Alderley Mill. The village is now best known for its wealthier inhabitants and grand residences - the choice of premiership footballers and city millionaires.
