Snelson lies about half a mile from Chelford, on the road to Over Peover. Essentially it is a small collection of houses centred on a cross-roads.

Snelson was listed in the Doomsday book of 1086, then known as Senelstune, and associated with the estate of the Mainwarings at nearby Peover Hall.
